Well, here it is, a time I look forward to with mixed emotions: because it's the crowning culmination of the season, but most important game of the year.... but it's also the end of the season.
I bet on the Cardinals in the NFC championship and won a TON of money because noone thought they could do it.
So, I'm going to stick with them for the SB. The fact I hate the Steelers doesn't make that a tough decision.
So, what do the rest of ya'll think?

Thanks Boots, Ah yes! the Superbowl, great time of year but usually the game is so intense and my team usually loses
but this year my teams didn't make it, and I'm not even sure the best teams are here, but they made it and that's all that matters, on paper I would say the Steelers Got-it-locked down on D-fence but the Cardinals are the Cinderella team and carrying some good karma -who knows.
If Polamalu and the Steelers shut down Larry Fitzgerald - it's over
I just want a good fun fair game - Going for the Steelers but rooting for the Cardinals -

Re: Super Bowl! The most wonderful day of the year....
Sat, January 31, 2009 - 1:01 AMYeah, I read you loud and clear. The Stealers seem like a lock... but so did the Patriots last year and look how that turned out.
You could be right that the best teams may not be here, but that's the luck of the draw with the playoffs. In baseball, for instance, back in 2001, the Mariners won, what? 114 games? Far more than any other team, more than any team had won in a season in a long time. And they didn't even get past the first round of playoffs. So, by far the best team of that season, didn't even make it to the World Series, let alone win it.
My dad tells me that at one time, at least in baseball, there were no playoffs. The two teams with the best records... American League and National League... just played each other in the World Series. Kind of makes sense to me. Then the money men came in with their calculators and realized they could make more money by keeping more fans interested for a longer period of time--because their team might have a shot at the Series, even if they weren't all that good in the regular season.
I can see that logic, and in some ways it's a good thing. Still, having the two best teams just play each other also seems pretty cool.
But enough of sports politics and back to the SB. I just have to root for the Cardinals. Not that they are a huge fave of mine. I'm kinda neutral, don't hate them, don't love them. But I DO love an underdog. And, well, you just have to love Kurt Warner. It's impossible not to like that guy. (In my opinion, anyway). It would be great to see him go out on a high note (not sure if he is going to retire after this, but it is getting to be about that time. Brett Favre, I'm looking at you!)
Also, if the Cards win, Warner will be the first QB to win a SB ring with two different teams.... Kinda cool. -

Re: Super Bowl! The most wonderful day of the year....
Sat, January 31, 2009 - 1:07 AMPS I also just want a good game. Fair, no outlandish calls, etc.
Also, not a blow out by either team. A nice even back and forth kinda game. I want some bone crushing, sweat flying action for 4 quarters! I don't want the game to be over before half time.
Digression: I decided on a mac instead of a PC when I got my new computer, but I think I might have made a mistake. Perhaps it's just a learning curve I need to adjust to? But it's hard to sync up to things, for instance, Netflix allows you to watch movies on line instantly, but you have to download Microsoft spotlight from the Netflix site to do it. Well, it doesn't work on my Mac. Just says it can't connect to the network, or something like that. Got Lime Wire ($50!) and get a similar message. aaaaaaargh! If I were tech saavy, I could probably figure it out, but I'm pretty much the opposite of that, and all my computer saavy friends have PCs and say they can't help me because they know nothing about Macs.
One of them actually laughed at me when I said I bought a Mac and said "oh no! you bought into the hype!" heh heh heh heh

Yeah Boots, you are so right, and make some very valid points, and I agree with all that you've said - I just don't remember this happening very much even in the playoffs - where the best teams didn't make it and of course you got exceptions and upsets or key players injured, but usually back in the day the best teams got there - could be counted on - the Broncos, the 49ers, the Patriots, on and on because they were able to build slowly and gel with chemistry and bond with the team over the years, I think that's the difference with all this free agency stuff and moving from team to team, firing coaches only after a year or two (once again me reminiscing about the past NFL and nostalgia of the old teams).
But back then I was crying that only the same teams make it and win it every year - ;-P
this year just seemed like a fluke - a Murphy's law kinda of year
and regarding Brett, come on Boots, I can understand him leaving the game for the sake of history but this guy is IMO is better than ever and doesn't seem to miss a beat I remember Dan Marino looking like he was using a Walker to hick the ball and get to the play off, but Brett is unbelievable to me how 1 guy can change the whole franchise - IMO i would have taken him over any QB this year - I think he's got two more years in him - Think how different the Bears would be or even teams like the Cowboys if they had Brett -

Hang in there Boots with the Mac - its different and it takes time getting use to
I've used both and it really depends on what you want to do and how you'll be using it, but trust me its more than hype Macs are so much better and esp. with visuals, music, security, etc. PC's are spying on you right now and make problems so they can charge you for more in the future.
IMO Lime wire's garbage any way and there are alternatives to netflix - you're just used to using PC, and also on MAC you can use PC platforms which are convertible on Mac -so you shouldn't be having these problems- there should be so local classes around town or your local library were they go over the basics of MACs for Ex PC users or even something online or just call Apple and tell them your problems.
Once you really go Mac you'll never really want to go back ;-P -

Sat, January 31, 2009 - 11:57 AMthanks Godstar!
Yes, I"m sure I'll like the Mac better when I get to know it. There are just so many things I can't do right now! Got utorrent and downloaded the 3rd season of Dexter. It shows as all there "download complete" But it won't play. Frustrating.
And I don't mean to be too hard on Favre. I love the guy.... it's hard not to. Just as you say, he still looks pretty damn good out there. On the other hand, he is past his prime... very much past it. And I would have liked to have seen him go out on a high note, like his last season with the Packers, rather than grind himself down to the last bit of pulp and go out like Marino.
He loves the game so much, I'm afraid he's going to keep going til he's just ground meat... a decrepit hollow shell of his former self. And I don't want to remember him like that. I sure hope he goes into the HoF as a Packer and not a Jet.... that would be just plain wrong. -

You might be right Angel, intuitively the Cards kept coming to mind as if this was their year - so they might hold the magic esp. when everyone is voting them out - let the games begin - ;-) -

Interesting factoid, players do not go into the NFL HoF associated with any team. From the official NFL site:
"Enshrinees do not go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of a certain team. Rather, all of an inductee's affiliations are listed equally."
I've been an NFL fan my whole life and did not know that until a year or two ago. Most people don't seem to know it.
